Filmmaker Rohan Sippy, best known for directing Dum Maaro Dum, has shared his thoughts on the ongoing debate around maintaining an 8-hour work shift in the film industry — a conversation that reignited after Deepika Padukone’s reported exit from a film project citing schedule concerns.

In a recent interview with PTI, Sippy explained that the nature of the entertainment industry doesn’t allow for fixed working hours. “It’s not the right profession to pursue if that’s what you’re looking for,” he said, referring to the idea of an 8-hour shift. “This profession requires flexibility — whether it’s night shoots, meetings, or unpredictable schedules.”

‘We’re Lucky to Be in This Industry,’ Says Rohan Sippy

The director further added that those working in films must accept the demanding nature of the job. “We’re all lucky to be in this industry and to be getting work. You have to accept it and have a family that understands and supports that,” Sippy said.

He also acknowledged how family support plays a crucial role in sustaining a film career. “If your family cannot accept the nature of this work or manage those expectations, it becomes an issue. I’m extremely fortunate to have that kind of support,” he shared.

Sippy made these remarks while promoting his latest OTT series, Search: The Naina Murder Case, starring Konkona Sensharma in the lead role. The crime thriller premiered on October 10, 2025, and marks Sippy’s latest venture in the digital space.
