Chennai Man Donates ₹22,674 to CM Relief Fund Inspired by Vijay’s Thamizhan Scene

A resident of Chennai has donated ₹22,674 to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund in Tamil Nadu, inspired by a powerful scene from the 2002 Tamil film Thamizhan, starring actor-turned-politician Vijay, where a character donates money to help the state clear its debts.

The donor, identified as Arun Loganathan, chose to echo that message of public support by contributing the amount at a post office in Villivakkam, aiming to draw attention to issues faced by people with disabilities and to encourage more inclusive facilities across the state. He himself uses a wheelchair due to polio and said his contribution was a personal effort to support positive change in society.

Arun said his intention was not to pay off state debts but to make a small but meaningful contribution toward social causes through the relief fund — a gesture many have noted as symbolic of how popular culture can inspire civic action.
