Arijit Singh Calls Time on Film Singing to Focus on Independent Music

Renowned Indian singer Arijit Singh has announced that he will no longer take on new assignments as a Bollywood playback vocalist, marking a major shift in his celebrated music career. In a heartfelt message shared on social media, the 38-year-old performer thanked fans for their support over the years and described his journey in film music as “wonderful.”
In his statement, Singh wrote that he will stop accepting new playback singing projects, effectively ending his active participation in Bollywood soundtracks, though he emphasised that this decision does not mean he is quitting music entirely. He said he plans to complete his pending commitments before fully stepping away from film work.
Singh — whose voice became synonymous with many of the biggest romantic and emotional hits of the past decade, including Tum Hi Ho, Kesariya and Channa Mereya — also explained that he intends to explore music outside the traditional Bollywood framework, with a renewed focus on independent creativity and possibly Indian classical music.
Social media and fans responded with shock, tributes and emotional reactions to the announcement, while industry peers weighed in on the significance of his decision. Despite stepping back from playback singing, Singh reaffirmed that he will continue making music and remain connected to his art in new ways as he embraces this next chapter.
