Delhi High Court Dismisses Celina Jaitly’s Plea Over Brother’s UAE Detention

Actor Celina Jaitly has reacted after the Delhi High Court dismissed her petition seeking intervention in the case of her brother, retired Army officer Vikrant Jaitly, who is currently detained in the United Arab Emirates.

The court closed the proceedings after learning that Vikrant had chosen not to communicate with his sister and instead preferred to discuss legal decisions with his wife, Charul Jaitly. Taking note of his stance, the bench concluded that the matter should proceed according to his own wishes regarding legal representation and communication.

Celina had approached the court seeking consular access, legal assistance and permission to communicate with her brother, whom she claimed had been detained in the UAE since September 2024. Her petition urged Indian authorities to ensure his welfare and help facilitate contact with him.

During the hearing, government representatives informed the court that Vikrant had already been offered consular support. However, he reportedly declined legal representation arranged through his sister and indicated that any legal steps should be taken only after consultation with his wife.

Taking these submissions into account, the court disposed of Celina’s plea while directing the government to continue providing necessary assistance to Vikrant through diplomatic channels if required.

Responding to the decision, Celina stated that her legal action was driven purely by concern for her brother’s safety and well-being. She explained that seeking judicial intervention was her attempt to ensure that he received proper legal support while being held abroad.

The case has also drawn attention to tensions between Celina and her sister-in-law over how Vikrant’s legal matters should be handled. Earlier hearings had seen the court emphasise that the focus should remain on assisting the detained officer rather than turning the matter into a family dispute.
